Professor Thanos Karatzias
Professor of Mental Health, Edinburgh Napier University.
Professor Karatzias is the head of research in the School of Health and Social Care at Edinburgh Napier University, UK and clinical and health psychologist at the Rivers Centre for traumatic stress Edinburgh UK.
He is the former chair of the British Psychological Society Scotland working group for adult survivors of sexual abuse and he was a member of the committee of the British Psychological Society Crisis, Disaster and Trauma section. He has spent his clinical and academic career working in the field of psychological trauma, particularly interpersonal trauma. In collaboration with national and international research partners he has developed a special interest in the effects and treatment of psychological trauma on physical and mental health in general, prison, and veteran populations, and people with learning disabilities. In recent years he has worked in the area of complex PTSD, a condition recently recognised in ICD 11, and its treatment, and has published widely in these areas.
