Kiri Durston
Client Care Group Support Worker
My name is Kiri Durston and I am a Client care and Group support worker at Mothers for Mothers. I have four children and, suffered with Post natal depression after my first child. I'd originally heard about the charity as a child, when my mum who volunteered to work for them, occasionally brought me along to the office.
Using the service proved to be invaluable to me and I longed to help others, that had had difficulties surrounding parenthood and adjusting . I applied to work at the organisation, voluntarily, in 2023, for a helpline call handler, initially, and was eventually offered a position as a Client Care and Group Peer Support Worker.
Within my role I can assist, mainly mothers, in navigating around the various areas of parenthood whether it be breastfeeding, help with accessing housing and financial resources, advocacy work or simply using my lived experience to provide a safe, listening space, for example.
My experiences surrounding perinatal and postnatal maternal Health, as a woman of colour, although difficult at times, have shaped my motherhood today and ultimately provided me with the tools that led to my own confidence when advocating for my children and myself.
